Magical Marbling

Water marbling (Turkish: Ebru) is a medieval painting technique used to create the decorative papers found in centuries-old books. The Silk Road brought this artform from Persia to Europe by 1600, and European craft guilds closely guarded the secret techniques until the Victorian era.

Visit us at in-person events, including the Bristol Renaissance Faire and Virginia craft shows, to watch Nancy demonstrate the craft and take home a memento for yourself. Watching paints float on water and create intricate patterns is a magical experience!

Process

Nancy floats paints on a water bath and transfers the designs to paper, silk, and ceramics -- these products are one-of-a-kind prints of designs that cannot ever be exactly replicated.
